Rudbeckia subtomentosa is more commonly known as Sweet Coneflower or Sweet Black-Eyed Susan. This native, fragrant perennial is a touch prairie plant with bright yellow, daisy-like blooms, adorned with dark brown central cones. It blooms from mid-summer to fall and are held on branched stems surrounded by heat resistant, dark green foliage. Sweet Coneflower is more long-lived than Rudbeckia hirta and Rudbeckia triloba and will outlast many other perennials in the garden. Deadhead spent blooms for another round in late summer and fall.
Sweet Coneflower is low maintenance and deer resistant. It thrives in full sun in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It can be drought tolerant once established. Ideal for borders and other naturalizing areas.
