Belamcanda chinensis 'Freckle Face' is commonly known as Freckle Face Blackberry Lily. This is a unique perennial that features brilliant orange flowers with heavy red specking in late summer to fall that attract butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. Blooms sit atop green, sword-shaped foliage similar to tall bearded iris. Pear-shaped seed pods form and open to reveal clusters of black seeds resembling blackberries, hence its common name of Blackberry Lily. They persist through winter and are attractive in fresh or dried flower arrangements.
Freckle Face Blackberry Lily is easy to grow and thrives in full sun in humus-rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Do not let the soil dry out. It is ideal in sunny borders, city gardens and containers.
