It features yellow and red miniature columbine-type flowers in early spring that are held on wiry stems above bronze tinted, green heart-shaped foliage. It is a tough and vigorous ground cover for the shade garden.
Red Barrenwort thrives in full shade in organically rich, well-drained soils. Epimediums are one of the few plants capable of surviving in dry shade.
