30 Feet Tall 8 Feet Wide--
Calocedrus decurrens is more commonly known as Incense Cedar. This evergreen conifer is a living fossil. It can live to over 1000 years and is native to western North America, although it does very well in the East and is tolerant of summer heat and humidity. It has an upright branching habit and can reach 30 feet tall with a spread of 8 feet in cultivation. Its showy reddish-brown bark is deeply furrowed with exfoliating long strips on the lower trunk. Foliage is produced in flattened branchlets in fern-like sprays of scale-like green leaves. When crushed, the foliage gives off an aroma somewhat akin to incense.
Incense Cedar thrives in full sun in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil. It appreciates a location protected from drying winter winds.
