3-4 Feet Tall 3-4 Feet Wide--
Ilex glabra 'Shamrock' is commonly referred to as Shamrock Inkberry Holly. It is a small, slow-growing evergreen shrub that only gets 3-4 feet tall and wide. It features glossy, deep evergreen foliage with abundant greenish-white flowers in early summer. Flowers are followed by black fruit in fall that persist through winter attracting birds and other wildlife. This female cultivar will need a male pollinator such as Ilex glabra 'Pretty Boy' to produce its black berries.
Shamrock Inkberry Holly thrives in full sun to partial shade in rich, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It can tolerate boggy conditions. It will not tolerate soils that are neutral or alkaline. Shamrock is ideal for areas that tend to hold moisture such as bog gardens or along ponds or streams.
