Ilex opaca 'Greenleaf' is commonly referred to as Greenleaf American Holly. It is a cultivated hybrid of the native American Holly It features an upright, pyramidal evergreen habit that slowly matures to 20 feet tall with a spread of 8-10 feet. This female tree produces bright red fruit from fall through winter if pollinated by a male.
Greenleaf American Holly is low maintenance and thrives in full to filtered sun in rich, organic, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It should be protected from the afternoon sun in hotter climates. It is ideal as a privacy screen, hedge or foundation planting.
