Parthenocissus quinquefolia is more commonly known as Virginia Creeper or American Ivy or Wild Wood Vine. It is a vigorous, fast-growing deciduous climbing ivy that emerges bronzy purple in spring, green in summer and brilliant shades of burgundy red in fall. It is one of the earliest vines to show color in fall. Small greenish-white flowers appear in late spring but are usually hidden by foliage.
Virginia Creeper is deer resistant and thrives in full sun or partial shade in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is quite adaptable to drier soils including sandy coastal dunes and alkaline soils. It can be drought tolerant once established. Ideal for walls, sides of buildings, trellises, arbors and fences. Easy to grow and disease free!
