Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Hopi' is commonly referred to as Hopi Crapemyrtle. It is noteworthy for being one of several mildew resistant hybrids developed by the National Arboretum in Washington D.C. - all have been given Native American tribe names. It features a semi-dwarf, deciduous habit with attractive, peeling bark and light pink flower clusters from summer to early fall. Great attractant for bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. Flowers give way to seed capsules which persist into winter. Green foliage turns reddish-orange in fall. It is noteworthy for its drought tolerance, salt tolerance and excellent mildew resistance.
The Hopi Crapemyrtle thrives in full sun in rich, fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soil. It performs best in an area sheltered from cold winter winds.
