Zone: 4ITOH CORA LOUISE TREE PEONY
Paeonia 'Cora Louise' is a premier Itoh Hybrid that combines the giant, exotic floral characteristics of a tree peony with the hardy, reliable growth of an herbaceous one. This mid-to-late spring bloomer is a showstopper, featuring massive semi-double flowers that can reach up to 8 to 10 inches across. The petals are a sophisticated creamy-white to pale blush, dramatically punctuated by deep, ink-purple or burgundy flares at the center. Unlike many traditional peonies, 'Cora Louise' is known for its light, sweet fragrance and its exceptionally sturdy, woody stems that hold these gargantuan blooms upright without any need for staking.
To ensure 'Cora Louise' reaches its full potential, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun to partial shade, as dappled afternoon shade can help the large, delicate petals last longer in warmer climates. It thrives in rich, fertile, and well-drained soil; like all peonies, it is a "heavy feeder" and appreciates a top-dressing of compost in early spring. One of the greatest benefits of this Itoh variety is its exceptional disease resistance, particularly to peony blight, and its lush, dark green foliage that remains healthy and ornamental until the first hard frost.
