JETSTREAM™ OAKLEAF HYDRANGEA

Hydrangea quercifolia 'PIIHQ-I' PP25,319 is commonly known as Jetstream™ Oakleaf Hydrangea. This First Editions® selection features a dense, compact hydrangea with a non-flopping habit. It reaches 5-6 ft. tall with a 4-5 ft. width. It has glossy, dark green, oak leaf-shaped leaves that are resilient to leaf spot and turns brilliant orange-red in fall. White flowers on 9 inch long, terminal panicles in early to mid-summer are held on strong stems before turning pink as the season progresses. Exfoliating tawny-brown bark adds to its off-season interest as do the dried flower heads.

Jetstream™ Oakleaf Hydrangea thrives in full sun to partial shade in organically rich, fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is ideal as an accent or foundation planting and also grouped in shrub borders along open woodland areas.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH. While adaptable to various light conditions, they perform best with morning sun and afternoon shade. Water regularly until established; once mature, this variety is more drought-tolerant than other hydrangeas, though it prefers consistent moisture. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune sparingly and only immediately after flowering to maintain shape; avoid pruning in late winter or early spring, as this will remove the following season's flower buds.
