Fargesia dracocephala 'Rufa' is commonly known as Dragon Head Bamboo. This fast-growing, vigorous, clump-forming bamboo has short, slender, bright green canes with red sheaths. It is fairly upright when young and will arch under the weight of the foliage as it grows. It can grow up to 7-8 feet tall and wide.
Dragon Head Bamboo thrives in partial shade in organically rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It can tolerate full sun, but may need protection from hot afternoon sun.
