Dacrydium cupressinum is commonly referred to as New Zealand Red Pine or Rimu Pine. This unique evergreen selection grows slowly to approximately 70 feet tall in its native New Zealand habitat. Branches on mature specimens have short, weeping branchlets while those on juveniles have longer and more strongly weeping branches. This species is dioecious and pollinated by the wind. The plant is not self-fertile.
New Zealand Red Pine thrives in partial shade in mildly alkaline, light, sandy, loamy, evenly moist, well-drained soils.
