ACER RUBRUM
Grower Notes:

The Red Maple is a medium-sized, deciduous tree that is native to Eastern North America and has a more rounded, compact crown. It grows faster than the Norway and Sugar Maples, but slower than the Silver Maple. Leaves emerge red and in summer turn dark green before maturing a lovely red in fall. In winter, the attractive, smooth gray bark with ridges adds to its interest. Fruit is a two-winged samara.

The Red Maple is very tolerant of most soils, but prefers slightly acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is not as tolerant of urban environments as other species. It is ideal as a specimen planting for lawns and streets.
